The National Pension Scheme Authority recently held a workshop with media owners through the Media Owners Association of Zambia (MOAZ). This is in an effort to foster collaboration and exchange ideas on how the two institutions could best serve the Zambian people regarding information on issues of social security. The workshop was held at Savee Resort in Siavonga and brought together media owners from different parts of the country.
Speaking in a virtual address during the official opening of the workshop, NAPSA Director General, Muyangwa Muyangwa highlighted the importance of collaborating with the media in advancing social security.
“At NAPSA, our mission is to secure the social and economic wellbeing of Zambians, ensuring that every individual enjoys a dignified life post-retirement. Achieving this vital goal requires close collaboration with our members, both current and prospective, along with many stakeholders. In this regard, the media plays a crucial role in keeping the public informed about key national issues. Thus, we share an essential goal,” he said.
Muyangwa Muyangwa also emphasized NAPSA’s dedication to transparency and accountability and commended the media for taking a leading role in shaping public discourse.
“We recognize the profound significance of the media as the fourth estate in disseminating information that shapes public discourse on national development and the social and economic wellbeing of our people. Building a transparent institution is not possible without the media, which serves as a vital conduit for our communication with stakeholders.” He stated.
And speaking at the same workshop, President of the Media Owners Association of Zambia, Costa Mwansa, thanked NAPSA for organising the first-ever media owners workshop and reiterated the importance of collaboration. He urged NAPSA and other public and private institutions to consider the media as a business and work with them on a win-win basis.
“Congratulations NAPSA on this milestone event, the first in many to come to foster deeper and mutually beneficial relationships between the media and NAPSA. As media, we would like to be recognized not only as information platforms, but rather as businesses that also have overheads and ongoing needs for resources and support to sustain their operations effectively, especially in current times given the challenges of power,” he said.
The Media Owners Association of Zambia has urged NAPSA to enhance use of its nationwide network of media houses to ensure that accurate information about social security reaches every corner of the country, promoting financial security, and empowering Zambians to secure a dignified retirement.
